2 Dead, 1 Injured After Car Plows Through Boyle Heights Home After Shooting

A man and a pregnant woman died and one person was injured Sunday afternoon after their car rammed into a Boyle Heights home following a shooting.

The crash occurred in the 1500 block of Pleasant Avenue around 11 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A total of three occupants were inside the white sedan. The driver was transported to a hospital where he later died of gunshot wounds, officials said. Another man, the backseat passenger, was able to get out of the car and was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Detectives said a black SUV pulled up to the white car a few blocks from the crash. A passenger reportedly got out of the passenger side of the SUV and then opened fire on the white car, said Sgt. Frank Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The shooter returned to the SUV and then drove off westbound on Cesar Chavez Avenue, police said.

The white car sped down Enchandia Street. Witnesses said they saw the car lose control and hit another car before going airborne and slamming into the house.

"I was cleaning the yard when I heard a 'boom,'" said resident Olga Damian. "I moved quickly because I thought it was also going to hit my house."

The homeowner, who did not want to be identified, said the impact of the crash shook his house "violently, up and down" and took it off its foundation.

It is unknown whether the female victim, who was 3-4 months pregnant, died from the gunfire or the traffic collision, police said.

The connection among the three passengers, who police said are between the ages of 20-30, is unknown.

Police would not comment on whether the victims knew the suspects. It is also unknown whether it was gang related.
