17-Year-Old Charged With Arson in Monrovia High School Fire

A 17-year-old student was charged today with two felony counts for allegedly hurling a Molotov cocktail through a window at Monrovia High School.

The teenage boy is set to make his first court appearance Wednesday in Eastlake Juvenile Court on one count each of arson of a structure and vandalism, according to Greg Risling of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The fire at the school, 845 W. Colorado Blvd., was reported at 12:23 a.m. Monday, according to Monrovia police Sgt. Rob Wilken.

Flames could be seen coming out of windows on the second and third floors of the school's administration building. The fire was doused by about 3:30 a.m.

Police said a neighbor saw somebody tossing something through the school windows. The 17-year-old -- a student at the school -- was arrested nearby.

There was no immediate word on a motive for the attack.
