3 Men Dead in Compton Shooting

After three young men were found shot dead late Tuesday night at a park in Compton, detectives are investigating the shooting to find their killer.

The shooting was reported at around 11:09 p.m. in the 400 block of Raymond Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

A passerby found three young men in a shed near a restroom in Raymond Street Park, sheriff's homicide detectives said.

Vanessa Gomez told NBC4 that she lived in the shed with her 29-year-old boyfriend. When Gomez came back to the shed around 11 p.m., she said knew something was wrong when she saw the door was open.

"They didn’t wake up. They didn’t move or nothing," Gomez said.

Deputies found the men on the ground "suffering from gunshot wounds to their upper torsos," Los Angeles Couny Sheriff's Homicide detectives said in a statement. They were pronounced dead at the scene. 

Gomez said her boyfriend and another friend were among the victims. The men have not yet been identified.

Athough the motive for the shooting was "unknown," detectives said it appeared to be gang related.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell said the victims likely knew their killer.

"We believe that people in the area may have information that may be helpful in locating the suspects in this, and being able to bring them to justice, get them off the streets to they can't hurt anybody else," McDonnell said. 

Residents who live near the location of the shooting, including Albert Gonzalez, were concerned about safety in the area when they heard about the shooting. 

"It's scary. We always have our kids out here," Gonzalez said. "This is a nice street because it’s a dead end street, so we hardly get traffic in and out. The people that pass by here we know who they are, all the time."
