Driver Wounded in Car-to-Car Shooting on 605 Freeway

A portion of the 605 Freeway was shut down Monday after a car-to-car shooting left a teenage driver wounded, authorities said.

It was reported at 1:53 a.m. on the northbound 605 at Alondra Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol Officer Peter Nicholson. The driver, an 18-year-old man from Bellflower, called 911 saying someone had opened fire on him.

The victim was struck in the hand and was able to drive himself to the hospital, the CHP said. He is expected to be OK.

No suspect information was available.

Investigators said there was no evidence that indicated that there was any sort of road rage incident prior to the shooting.

A SigAlert was issued at 3:46 a.m. shutting down the northbound freeway just south of Alondra Boulevard so officers could search for shell casings, the officer said.

The freeway was re-opened at 5:50 a.m.
