A suspicious package prompted the response

A call to police about a suspicious package in front of a Glendale Jewish synagogue prompted an evacuation Friday afternoon.

Glendale police were investigating the package, which was found in front of Temple Sinai of Glendale in the 1200 block of North Pacific Avenue (map), north of the 134 Freeway, according to Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

The area within 100 yards of the temple was evacuated, Lorenz said. A mobile command unit was set up and fire and police units were on scene, aerial video was showed.

Pacific between Dryden and Stocker was closed off, and aerial video showed police lighting flares to block the roadway. No one was inside the temple, police said.

The call came in to police at 3:45 p.m.
