Arrests Made After Human Remains Found in Burning Vehicle

Two men were arrested Saturday in connection with the remains of a 40-year-old man found inside a burning vehicle in San Bernardino County.

Deputies responding April 14 to a vehicle fire near Stoddard Wells Road and Lucerne Valley Cutoff found human remains inside the smoldering vehicle, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Homicide and arson investigators took over the case after the discovery.

On Friday, authorities were able to identify the remains as Justin Neil Schalk, of Los Angeles.

A search warrant was served on Saturday in the 11100 block of Pipeline Avenue in the Montclair area. Sean Allen Briskey, 30, and Major Austin, 31, were arrested on suspicion of murder, officials said.

Details on what led authorities to the two suspects was not made clear in the news release.
