Bicyclist Fatally Struck By Hit-and-Run Driver in Arleta Area

A bicyclist was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver early Thursday night in the Arleta area of Los Angeles, police said.

The accident was reported around 2 a.m. on Van Nuys Boulevard near Beachy Avenue. Officers responded to a four-vehicle accident and found a male bicyclist dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said the driver crashed into three parked cars while traveling in the wrong direction.

The driver suspected of killing the bicyclist fled the scene on foot. Police set up a perimeter in the area and later captured the suspect after he attempted to break into a house to evade the officers, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Poilce suspect the man was driving under the influence.

Police did not release any information about the suspect.

The scene of the hit-and-run crash was across the street from Arleta High School.
