Big Rig Crashes Into Multiple Vehicles in Long Beach

A big rig crashed into multiple vehicles early Thursday morning in Long Beach after the driver fell asleep, authorities said.

The crash was reported around 1 a.m. in the 3300 block of Santa Fe Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The driver, John Sesma, was traveling southbound on Santa Fe Avenue when he dozed off, hitting several vehicles parked along the street.

"What woke me up was the impact. For a split second I fell asleep," Sesma said.

The crash had a domino effect, dragging other cars along the street and onto the sidewalk.

Neighbors described the noise as a loud, screaching sound. When they walked outside, they were surprised to see the wreckage.

Sesma said he received his big rig license in 2012 and exchanged insurance information with the owners of the damaged cars.

Sesma said he suffered a few cuts and bruises.

No other injuries were reported.

The driver was not cited, police said.

Kevin Labeach and Corey Arvin contributed to this report.
