The body of a man was found early Thursday on Angeles Crest Highway about three miles north of the 210 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The investigation closed the mountain road in both directions. All lanes were expected to remain closed into the afternoon, according to the CHP.

Details regarding the death or the man's identity were not immediately available. A passing motorist discovered the body at about 5 a.m. Thursday, said CHP Officer Kevin Denmon.

The body remained on the side of the road at about 9 a.m. It was not immediately clear how long the body had been at the location, Denmon said.

The road might be closed throughout Thursday, the CHP said.

Police confirmed the body is not Gavin Smith, a 20th Century Fox distribution executive reported missing last week, said Sgt. Diane Hecht of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
