Car Rams Pursuit Vehicle, Later Abandoned, in Morning Chase: CHP

A California Highway Patrol vehicle was rammed by a stolen car during a pursuit that ended in Sun Valley early Wednesday morning, officials said.

CHP officers observed a white Honda Accord run a red light in Studio City just after 3 a.m. and gave chase when the car failed to yield, California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Bishop said.

The car led the officers onto the 101 Freeway at Vineland Avenue and continued onto the northbound 170 from Lankershim Boulevard to Sherman Place before exiting, Officer Bishop said.

The CHP officer's patrol unit was rammed, head-on, by the vehicle at a dead-end street at the intersection of Clybourn Avenue and Sherman Place, officials said.

The officers were not injured and were able to continue searching for the vehicle they were chasing.

It was found abandoned on train tracks at Clybourn Avenue and Strathern Street in Sun Valley, a mile from where the officers were rammed, officials said.

The car was reported stolen in October, officials said.

There was no immediate suspect description that was available but police were actively searching in the area, Bishop said.
