A 22-year-old man was booked for murder after his girlfriend’s body was found buried in a shallow grave in the backyard of a Compton home, authorities said Tuesday.
“The suspect admitted the victim was his girlfriend and that he killed her and buried her body,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
The grisly discovery was made about 9 p.m. Monday by deputies responding to a home in 400 block of Pannes Avenue to investigate a possible domestic dispute, according to the sheriff’s department.
While they were at the home, they learned that a woman’s body may be buried in the backyard. When they went outside, they found a mound of freshly dug dirt piled atop a makeshift grave. The body of a young woman was found inside.
Devion Anderson, 22, surrendered to the Compton Sheriff’s Station and is being held on $1 million bail. He has been booked for murder.
Further information, including the identity of the victim, was not available.
