Corey Seager is First Dodgers Shortstop to Win Silver Slugger Award

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager became the first player in franchise history to win a Silver Slugger Award at the position since its inception in 1980.

For the first time in franchise history, the Dodgers have a Silver Slugger at shortstop.

Hours after he was named the 2016 Top Rookie of the year in the National League by his peers in the annual Players Choice Awards, Seager continued his accumulation of hardware as he was named a 2016 recipient of the Silver Slugger Award.

The annual accolade his given to the best offensive players at each position in each league respectively. The awards are voted on by managers and coaches in each league with the caution that they cannot chose a player on their own team.

Seager was named the NL recipient of the award at the shortstop position on Thursday night on MLB Network. He was the only Dodger to receive a Silver Slugger Award this season.

Seager was an obvious choice to win the award has he batted .308 with 26 homers in 2016, leading all NL shortstops at the position. He had 193 hits, 105 runs scored, 40 doubles and 321 total bases. Only Rockies' rookie Trevor Story had more home runs (27), and likely could have won the award as well as Rookie of the Year had an injury not ended his season in early August.
