Coroner: Man's Body Found Decomposing in Fairfax District Died of Gunshot Wound

The victim has not been identified

A man whose body was found decomposing in the rear seat of a Cadillac Escalade in the Fairfax district Saturday died from a gunshot wound to the stomach, the coroner’s office said Tuesday.

The body was found parked near Willoughby and Genesee avenues (map) Saturday morning, when a stench coming from the car prompted someone to call police, LAPD said.

As of Tuesday, the body was still listed as “John Doe,” coroner officials said.

"The case is a homicide," Coroner's Investigator Dana Bee said Monday.

Authorities did not say who the vehicle was registered to. It was found next to the city limit between Los Angeles and West Hollywood, two blocks northeast of Fairfax High School.

Police urged anyone with information regarding the case to contact West Bureau homicide detectives at 213-382-9470 or 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
