Coroner Probes Football Player's Death

A 16-year-old football collapsed and stopped breathing during a high school football game Thursday

Coroner's officials are trying to figure out what caused a high school football player to collapse during a game last week and die two days later.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said Sunday that they have opened an investigation into the death of Dodi Soza, a Downey High School running back.

He collapsed and stopped breathing during a football game against Lynwood High School on Thursday.

Soza died Saturday and family and friends held an emotional vigil at the football field at Downey High School.

Mourners released white balloons into the sky over. They remembered Soza using the hashtag #RIPDodi on Twitter.

"Now he's looking down on us with his bright amazing smile," wrote one mourner on Twitter. "WE LOVE YOU DODI. #RipDodi"
