CHICAGO – We know what pitch they both want back.
Enrqiue Hernandez hit a solo home run and Kris Bryant hit a two-run homer as Jon Lester and Mike Bolsinger each made just one mistake as the Chicago Cubs held off the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field.
Hernandez made his first start in the lineup since May 20th and greeted Lester (6-3) with a leadoff home run on the second pitch of the game to give the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead.
The Cubs' lefty was dominant from there, retiring 15 straight batters to end the game as he allowed just one run on four hits with ten strikeouts in a complete-game performance.
Bolsinger (1-2) matched Lester through the first five innings, but after a leadoff walk to Dexter Fowler in the third inning, Mike's mistake cost him two runs as the eigning NL Rookie of the Year hit a moon shot to left-center to give the Cubs the lead.
Bolsinger was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning before he faced the third time through the lineup—when he struggles—as he surrendered just two runs on two his with six strikeouts in five innings.
Dodgers relief pitchers Pedro Baez and Casey Fein combined to pitch three scoreless innings in relief, but it was not enough to get the victory as the offense went silent after the first inning.
