Dangerous Thunderstorms, Flooding Strike High Desert Areas

More storms were expected through the weekend

Palmdale and nearby areas were hammered by heavy rain and flooding on Thursday -- and more stormy conditions were expected Friday and through the weekend.

Thunderstorms brought hail and rain to the region, trapping some drivers and forcing even more vehicles to stop.

One driver's SUV got stuck in up to 4 feet of water that flooded a section of the road he was traveling. The driver had to be rescued from his vehicle.

One man said he witnessed a lightening bolt strike a pole, which downed a power line that hit his vehicle.

Although temperatures were expected to be higher than normal into the weekend, humidity was also expected, particularly in desert community areas like Palmdale and Beaumont. The humidity was expected to generate more thunder showers.

Some travelers came to the Palmdale region that day anticipating the rain and thunderstorms.

Officials warned drivers to stay clear of traveling water to avoid dangerous driving conditions.
