From classrooms to living rooms, social media was abuzz as undefeated U.S. Men’s Hockey took to the ice against Canada in the semifinals at the Sochi Olympics.

But just as Team USA fell to Canada in the women’s gold-medal match a day earlier, so did the men, leaving American hockey fans stunned and with little to cheer about after the much-anticipated game.

NBC4’s Whit Johnson was there live as the drama unfolded, and colleagues back home sent him messages of support and excitement for his return home as the Olympics begin to draw to a close.
