At least five people were injured after a dump truck crashed into a Metro bus Wednesday morning next to the 405 Freeway near Culver City, police said.
The crash was reported around 5:40 a.m. near Jefferson Boulevard, according to Culver City police.
The Metro Transit Authority bus was traveling east on Jefferson Boulevard at the time of the crash, according to Capt. Jorege Kurowski and Capt. Daniel Dobbs of the Culver City Fire Department. The dump truck carrying gravel was driving off of the northbound offramp of the 405 Freeway when it hit the bus.
According to Kurowski and Dobbs, there were six people on the bus including the driver when it crashed. The driver of the truck was the only person in that vehicle. Four people were transported to the hospital.
Two of the four people transported, the truck driver and a bus passenger, were classified as "immediate," or as in need of an immediate transport to the hospital, authorities said. They added that both were awake and talking when they were transported.
Jose Barahona was riding the bus when it crashed. He said he only felt a little bit of pain in his left leg and his throat.
“I don’t know what happened because I was sleeping,” Barahona said. “I feel only the impact of the bus, the hard impact.”

Barahona said a woman in the bus was screaming and crying after the crash.
California Highway Patrol was investigating the exact cause of the crash, Dobbs said. The traffic signal appeared to be working after the crash, so whether or not it was a mechanical problem or the driver's error was being determined.
