One Dead, One Hospitalized After Norwalk House Fire

One person is dead and another remains hospitalized Friday morning after a house fire in Norwalk.

The fire burned a two-story home in the 10800 block of Van Ruiten Street. The fire began at about 3 a.m. and caused part of the home's roof to collapse, which prevented firefighters from entering the house to immediately determine whether the unaccounted for victim is deceased.

Firefighters later entered the building and confirmed the fatality. Details regarding the injured victim's condition were not immediately available.

Crews also reported explosions caused by oxygen cylinders ignited by the fire. Firefighters were inside the home when the roof collapsed, but no injuries were reported.

A neighbor told NBC4 that brothers in their 50s live at the home. Their mother, who is deceased, used the oxygen tanks due to a medical condition, according to the resident.
