Eight Evacuated in Condominium Fire

Eight people were evacuated from their homes Tuesday when fire burned a condominium complex in the San Gabriel Valley.

The fire, reported at about 2:30 a.m., was kocked down about four hours later in the 3000 block of Winfield Avenue in La Verne. No injuries were reported.

Residents described waking up to smoke and fire, some flames climbing about 15 feet in the air.

"I came outside, looked up and saw smoke in the roof," said resident Jude Baroudi, whose family was sleeping when the fire started. "I sai, 'Babe, get the kids out. There's a fire.'"

Baroudi, his wife and daughters, ages 9 and 5, made it out of the buring building.

The fire, which started with an electrical outlet, began in an attic and burned four attached units, firefighters said.
