Former Officer Accused of Sexually Molesting Teen

A former Irwindale police officer was charged Wednesday with sexually molesting a 14-year-old girl who was in the department’s Explorer Program.

Daniel Camerano, 27, was accused of beginning a sexual relationship with the teen and sending sexually suggestive text messages to another female Explorer.

The eight-year veteran was charged with one felony count each of using a minor for sex acts, sending harmful matter, oral copulation of a person under 16, sexual penetration by foreign object and two counts of contact with a minor for sexual offense, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Camerano was later released on $240,000 bail. He resigned from the Police Department this week.

The former officer is scheduled to be arraigned on July 15. If convicted, the former police officer faces up to five years in prison.
