Former NY Fire Captain Sentenced in Child Molestation Case

A former captain of the New York City Fire Department was sentenced Thursday in a molestation case that involved twin brothers during a trip to Los Angeles last year.

Wilbert Riera, 52, was sentenced to 270 days in Los Angeles County jail and must register as a sex offender for life, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Riera was also ordered to complete one year of "sex offender therapy" and five years of probation.

On Sept. 10, Riera plead no contest to two felony counts of lewd acts with a child under the age of 14. The victims were 11-years-old during the molestation in September 2014, according to the news release.

Riera, a 21-year-veteran of the department, resigned from his post at the New York City Fire Department last month.
