Forest Service Crew Discovers Human Skull in Sylmar Wash

It is unknown how or when the skull got there, sheriff's officials said

A human skull was discovered Thursday in a foothill community in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.

A Los Angeles National Forest Service work crew clearing brush in a dry wash discovered a human skull at around 11:10 a.m. in the 11700 block of Little Tujunga Canyon Road in unincorporated Sylmar, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

It is unknown how or when the skull got there, sheriff's officials said. No other bones were found at the time of the discovery.

Coroner's officials and homicide detectives are working on identifying the person and how they died.

No further information was immediately available.
