How to See Endeavour on "Mission 26"

Limited viewing opportunities are available to the public

The space shuttle Endeavour is mated to the the Over Land Transporter shortly after landing at LAX Sept. 22. The shuttle will make its way to the California Science Center Oct. 12-13.

As space shuttle Endeavour makes it way from Los Angeles International Airport to the California Science Center on Friday and Saturday, "Mission 26" will require street and sidewalk closures in some locations.

The public will have limited opportunities to view the five-story-tall orbiter along its 12-mile route, where in some places the orbiter will come within inches of buildings.

Authorities are advising those hoping to see Endeavour to arrive early, expect heavy traffic and be prepared to stand amid large crowds. Space is limited at all sites.

Key viewing areas are:

Inglewood City Hall, from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Saturday – shuttle will not stop
The Forum, from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday – a special ceremony
Crenshaw and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards, from 2 to 2:30 a.m. Saturday – a dance performance near Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza
Bill Robertson Lane at Exposition Park, about 8:30 p.m. Saturday – shuttle's final stretch

Inglewood authorities have designated several other sites where viewing is possible along the shuttle route.

The shuttle will open at its permanent home on Oct. 30, when the California Science Center has said public viewing opportunities will be best.
