Attempted Murder Charges Filed in Hostage Standoff

A man accused of opening fire on police before barricading himself in a home and holding his girlfriend and her 14-year-old daughter hostage for more than eight hours Wednesday was charged with attempted murder of a peace officer and other felonies.

Christopher Warsaw, 45, was charged with 10 counts of attempted murder  of a peace officer, 10 counts of assault on a peace officer with a semiautomatic firearm, two counts of false imprisonment and single counts of  kidnapping, child abuse, criminal threats and possession of a firearm by a  felon, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

The charges stem from the Nov. 27 shooting and standoff that began after Inglewood officers responded to a report involving a domestic dispute near 108th Street and Fifth Avenue. Witnesses told police they saw a man dragging a teen girl into a home.

Warsaw allegedly opened fire on responding officers, striking one in a protective vest. The officer suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The hostage standoff that began at mid-day continued until about 9 p.m. when he surrendered to police. The woman and teen were freed.

The standoff forced evacuations and street closures in the neighborhood.

Warsaw faces up to life in prison if convicted, prosecutors said.
