LA Sheriff's Bus Carrying Juveniles in Crash on LA Freeway, 6 Taken to Hospital

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department inmate bus carrying juvenile inmates was involved in a crash on the southbound 170 Freeway in North Hollywood Monday morning, authorities said.

Six of the seven inmates who were on the bus were taken to local hospitals to check out minor injuries, saying they had sore backs, sheriff's deputies said. It was unclear if all the bus occupants were juveniles.

The crash took place at the Magnolia Avenue exit, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Traffic backed up past Sherman Way, according to NBC4's traffic map. The bus was headed to Los Angeles County Jail from Symlar's juvenile detention center.

A second bus arrived at the location to assist, deputies said. Deputies initially gave the crash's location as being near Riverside Drive.

The crash is under investigation, deputies said.
