Lake Elsinore Homeowner Guns Down Burglar, Gets Arrested on Felony Warrant

A Lake Elsinore homeowner was arrested after gunning down a burglar during a home invasion robbery over the weekend, sheriff's officials said.

Armed with a pistol, the homeowner confronted three burglars who had entered his home in the 53000 block of Beales Street late Saturday night, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

A gunfight broke out and one of the burglars was struck. Deputies said the wounded burglar was taken to a Riverside-area hospital by his accomplices, where he died of his injuries.

Bakersfield residents Jose Pacheco and Oscar Bustos, both 21, were arrested in connection with the home invasion robbery, sheriff's officials said.

The homeowner, identified as 45-year-old Elisaldo Martinez, was arrested for a felony warrant. It was unclear why the warrant had been issued.

Officials did not immediately release the identity of the burglar who was killed because his family had not been notified of his death.
