Students Released After High School Lockdown in Hacienda Heights

Officials at Los Altos High School contacted authorities after a student raised concerns regarding another student's comments

A high school in Hacienda Heights was locked down Wednesday morning when Los Altos High School (map) officials contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department after a student reported hearing a conversation that raised safety concerns.

Students remained in their classrooms during the lockdown, according to the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District office. They were released from class at the football field later Wednesday afternoon.

School officials called the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department after comments overheard by a student in a campus restroom raised concerns. The student told a school administrator -- the nature of the comments was not immediately clear -- and school officials reported the case to the sheriff's department.

Aerial video showed deputies searching outside the school building at 15325 East Los Robles Avenue.

Parents were notified of the lockdown via text messages. The search continued at noon, about three hours after the report.
