Police Learning More About Missing Children Last Seen in Venice Area

Ashley Montes and Timothy Jacob Reed had planned on running away, a friend told police

As the search continues for two children missing since Saturday, police are revising their account of what the pair did when they were last seen in the Venice area.

Police originally thought that Ashley Montes, 12, and Timothy Jacob Reed, 14, boarded a bus bound for the beach on Saturday. But that was based on incorrect information, officers with the Los Angeles Police Department said Monday.

It was their friend, who is not missing, who got on the bus, police said. That friend said the two missing children walked together away from the bus stop, which is near Mark Twain Middle School.

Another friend told police that the pair had been planning to run away for some time.

Their parents distributed fliers Monday in hopes somebody will recognize the pair. The parents haven't been able to call the children's cell phones since Saturday afternoon

Montes, from the Venice area, is 4-foot-8 and approximately 80 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, police said. Reed, who lives in West LA, is 5-foot-7 and about 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
