Mourners Recall Slain Minister as ‘Devoted to the Lord'

The suspect stabbed the victim multiple times at his apartment before taking his car, sheriff's officials said

Mourners paid their respects to a 79-year-old associate minister of a Southern California church who was fatally stabbed allegedly by a teenaged girl who he knew.

Deputies found the body of the Rev. Willie Hunter with multiple stab wounds Saturday at his apartment. He was an associate minister at the United in Christ Baptist Church of Apple Valley.

The girl, who has not been identified, was arrested Sunday and taken to juvenile hall. The victim and the suspect knew each other, officials said, without naming a possible motive.

Investigators believe the two were arguing and the girl attacked the man before taking off with his car.

"His death has really shocked our church," Hunter's friend Frank Kelly said. "He was a dear brother, and he will be missed."

Kelly said Hunter was unmarried and "very devoted to the Lord," his church family and community.
