NBCLA

The suspect got out of stolen vehicle and fired an AK-47 at officers. Cops returned fire, killing the suspect.

A man who fired an AK-47 at cops was shot and killed by police near Union Avenue and Temple Street in Echo Park Tuesday at 4:45 p.m.

Officer April Harding of the LAPD's Media Relations Section said officers in an unmarked car were following the suspect, possibly in a stolen car, through the neighborhood.  Polce alleged the suspect had carjacked the vehicle he was driving.

The suspect eventually stopped, got out of the vehicle and fired an AK-47 at officers, Harding said.  Officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
