Man Climbs Out of Ravine After Crash

1 man dies, 2 are injured in a Saturday crash off Angeles Crest Highway

A man injured in a crash over the side of Angeles Crest Highway managed to climb out of a ravine and alert a passerby that two others were trapped and needed to be rescued, sheriff's officials said Sunday.

A search team converged on the area and found an 18-year-old man dead and another man injured after noon on Saturday. The vehicle the men were in had plunged 500 feet over the side of Angeles Crest Highway near Mile Marker 41.

Vigen Sarkisyan, 18, of Tujunga, died.

The sheriff's Montrose Search and Rescue Team and Emergency Services Detail arrived at the scene about 2:35 p.m., officials said.

A sheriff's rescue helicopter lowered a paramedic in a litter into the ravine and hoisted two men into the aircraft.

The two injured men from Pasadena were between 18 and 20-years-old. They were treated at a local hospital for major trauma injuries, officials said.
