Power outages Thursday night left thousands of Southland customers in the dark.

About 1,800 customers were without power in Venice as of 10:30 p.m. Officials say they have not determined the cause of the Venice outage that started at about 9:30 p.m. in the area of Lincoln and Venice boulevards.

About 4,000 customers were without power in the East Hollywood-Silver Lake area near the 700 block of North Hoover. Officials say that outage was likely caused by a vault explosion shortly after 5 p.m.

In both the Venice and East Hollywood-Silver Lake incidents, officials say they do not have an estimated restoration time.

About 5,500 customers in San Clemente were without power. Officials say they suspect a problem in the overhead electrical system caused the outage, which started around 8 p.m. Power is estimated to be restored to these customers by midnight.
