Neighbors Demand Solution to High School Rat Infestation

Neighbors say rats are coming from piles of trash from a school just behind their houses.

Some homeowners living on East 33rd Street say they started seeing rats in their homes and on their properties a few weeks ago and came together, signed a letter and took it to the school.

They say changes were made but more needs to be done.

Neighbors gave NBC4 pictures of rats they have seen and found alive and dead in their homes.

They noticed the problems a month ago and documented the rodent infestation coming from the trash and dumpsters from Jefferson High School that is right behind their houses.

Neighbors said the dumpsters that had lined the walls adjacent to homes were moved farther away about two weeks ago. A meeting with the school principal and neighbors also took place soon after the complaints.

LAUSD officials said in a statement they have also sent pest management to check on the situation.
