Shooting Victim Found in Parking Lot Outside Bar Near CSUN Campus

The bar is located about one mile south of the Northridge campus

The body of a shooting victim was found Tuesday morning outside a bar near the California State University Northridge campus.

Police received the report of a shooting victim -- described as a man in his 30s -- at about 2:30 a.m. The body was found in the parking lot of the College Inn bar in the 8600 block of Lindley Avenue. The bar had just closed, but it was not immediately clear whether the victim was a student.

"He appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck," said LAPD Lt. Aaron Ponce.

Officers searched near railroad tracks, but no arrests were reported. An LAPD airship responded to the location to join the search.

Two bar employees told police they did not hear gunfire.

"They were working inside the bar," said Ponce. "My information is that they did not hear anything."

The strip mall location is south of the CSUN campus (map). The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
