“Snowboarder Bandit” Strikes Again

The suspect is believed to be linked to at least seven other bank robberies in Orange County

An elusive bank robber dubbed the "Snowboarder Bandit" struck again Wednesday in Irvine.

The man suspected of robbing at least seven banks in Orange County since last December stuck up a U.S. Bank inside a grocery store in the 3900 block of Portola Parkway shortly before 2 p.m., according Irvine police.

The suspect fled from the scene and appeared to divert from his usual headwear – a beanie cap – in favor of a motorcycle helmet during his latest robbery, police said.

FBI and Irvine police are investigating the incident, and said they had not determined what or how much the suspect stole.

He is described as white man in his mid-to-late 20s, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, weighing between 120 to 180 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.

The "Snowboarder Bandit" earned his nickname "because of his youthful appearance and ski-type clothing he wears during his robberies," according to a police news release.

Police suspect he is linked to other holdups in Irvine, Laguna Hills, Anaheim Hills, Ladera Ranch and Corona Del Mar.
