SoCal Gas Prices Reach Lowest Point This Year

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped four-tenths of a cent today to $3.594, its lowest amount since Dec. 27.

The average price has decreased 27 consecutive days and 62 of the past 63, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 4.4 cents less than one week ago, 20.2 cents lower than one month ago and 23.8 cents below one year ago.

The Orange County average price dropped one-tenth of a cent today to $3.569, its lowest amount since Dec. 27. It has also decreased 62 of the past 63 days and is 4 cents less than one week ago, 19.1 cents lower than one month ago and 22.4 cents below one year ago.

The dropping pump prices are the result of lower wholesale prices and the Nov. 1 switch to winter blend gasoline, which costs less to produce, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
