South Bay Basketball Coach Accused of Raping Female Player

A girls basketball coach who has worked at several South Bay schools was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of raping one of his players, police said Wednesday.

Timothy Lucas, 31, was taken into custody at Manhattan Beach Middle School by police detectives, the Hermosa Beach Police Department said.

Details about the alleged rape were not disclosed because the victim is a minor. But police said the incident took place at an Hermosa Beach home about a year and a half ago.

Lucas, a Cypress resident, has worked at Mira Costa High, Redondo Beach Union High, Torrance West High and Manhattan Beach Middle schools, police said.

He faces charges of forcible rape and sex with a minor and was being held on $200,000 bail.

Anyone with information on the case or additional victims was asked to call Det. Dean Garkow at 310-318-0348 or Det. Jonathan Cruz at 310-318-0332.
