Southwest Airlines Intends to Service Long Beach Airport

Southwest Airlines announced its intentions to offer flights at Long Beach Airport this year, the company announced Wednesday.

The air carrier formally applied this week for slot authority to offer new services at the airport, pending approval, according to a press release.

If approved, Long Beach Airport would be the fifth airport in Los Angeles County where Southwest provides service. Southwest currently provides services to Los Angeles International Airport, Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, John Wayne Airport in Orange County and Ontario International Airport.

Southwest President and CEO Gary Kelly made the announcement Wednesday at an employee rally in Las Vegas, while employees in downtown Los Angeles viewed via satellite, according to a press release.

If approved, the addition to Long Beach Airport would be the tenth service location in California in Southwest Airlines' airport map.
