Student Shot on South Gate High Campus

The wounded victim is expected to survive, police said

A 15-year-old student at South Gate High School was  shot on the campus Tuesday and a fellow student was arrested, police said.

The shooting occurred at 7:51 a.m. at 4100 Firestone Blvd., according to  the South Gate Police Department.

The wounded boy, who was taken to a hospital for an abdomen wound, was  expected to survive, police told City News Service. South Gate High School principal German Cerda  said the boy suffered a graze wound and was not seriously injured.

The boy told officers that he was walking through the lunch area when he was shot, the Associated Press reported.

The suspect was arrested at South East High School about 45 minutes  after the shooting, officials said.

His name was not released. The name of the suspect also was not released.

The school was locked down after the attack.
