Suspected Valley Serial Killer Charged With Three More Murders

A man suspected of going on a shooting rampage in the San Fernando Valley and other parts of Los Angeles in August - including killing a woman on her way to church - was charged with murder Thursday for three homicides, officials said.

The LA County District Attorney charged Alexander Hernandez, 34, with three counts of murder and five of attempted murder, according to a statement.

He now faces 22 total charges, including a fourth count of capital murder and two more of attempted murder.

Hernandez's previous charges came August 27, days after he was alleged to have driven around the Valley and Los Angeles, shooting people in Sylmar, Pacoima, Atwater Village and West Hollywood.

Investigators said at the time they were building a case against Alexander for the other shootings.

"This is an individual that was out randomly shooting people," said Deputy Chief Kirk Albanese of the Los Angeles Police Department after Hernandez was arrested Sunday, Aug. 24. "As crazy as that sounds, that's what happened. I don’t know what his motive may have been."

Hernandez, reportedly a known gang member, is accused in a string of apparently disconnected shootings that took place over five days in August.

The fact that Hernandez allegedly killed multiple people, and that he did so from an occupied vehicle, make him eligible for the death penalty, according to the DA's office.

Prosecutors haven't decided if they would seek capital punishment.
