Teen Wanted in Baseball Bat Attack Surrenders

The man wanted in connection with the baseball bat beating of a 72-year-old man in Santa Ana has surrendered, police said Thursday.

Samuel Elijah Alvarez, 18, is accused of beating Jose Chacon Sunday in a 76 gas station parking lot after an argument between the two.

Chacon was walking out of the gas station when he stumbled and fell on Alvarez’s car, according to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, a spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.

The two began to argue, and police said the teen grabbed a bat and started beating the man.

The 72-year-old went to his car to try to find something to help defend himself, but swung at Alvarez and missed, police said.

Bertagna said Alvarez continued to attack Chacon, who was hospitalized in the intensive care unit after the beating.
