‘The Rock Fairy': Mystery Artist Delivers Hand-Painted Rocks to Strangers' Doorsteps

Dozens of residents in Studio City and Sherman Oaks have discovered hand-painted rocks on their doorsteps, delivered by the "Rock Fairy."

The past few weeks have been a tumultuous time for our country, and many people are feeling uneasy. But, a mysterious artist has come up with a magical way to ease the tension.

Studio City residents Louise and C.B. Harding found themselves feeling uneasy.

"For months before the election I was feeling very distressed," Louise Harding said.

She began seeing social media posts about neighbors who were discovering beautifully hand-painted rocks on their doorsteps delivered by a mysterious artist who is being called the "Rock Fairy." And one day, Louise got a rock of her own.

The Hardings discovered a rock on their doorstep.

"It was a beacon of joy," Louise said.

Those "beacons of joy" have now been left on more than 65 doorsteps in Studio City and Sherman Oaks, much to the delight of recipients.

"I started crying … I couldn’t get the key in the door," recipient Wendy Rappeport said. "I was all teary … I don’t know why I was picked."

Something about that feeling of being "chosen" seems to lift the spirits of everyone visited by the Rock Fairy.

"It’s a rock, but it reminds us it’s the little things that can make people feel part of a community and connected," recipient Anissa Siegel said.

Over the past three months, the Rock Fairy has anonymously delivered more than 65 painted rocks to doorsteps in Sherman Oaks and Studio City. Nobody knows the artist’s identity and they’re OK with that.

"We don’t believe in magic," recipient Joan Marlowe said. "But maybe there is magic."
