Men Thrown From Car During Crash in Reseda

Police had not yet determined if the driver was driving under the influence, but noted that speed was definitely a factor.

Three men were taken to the hospital after they were critically injured in a high-speed crash in Reseda Monday.

The crash was reported around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Vanowen Street and Tampa Avenue, according to Sgt. Cameron Dunnet of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

It occurred when a speeding convertible Ford Mustang crashed into two cars, and then into a parked car, authorities said. The car then caused a chain reaction when it crashed into nine other parked cars also, Dunnet said.

Two of the three men in their early 20s were ejected from the convertible, and all three men were transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to Dunnet.

The passenger in the front seat was the only one wearing a seatbelt, but he was still critically injured.

It was not clear if people in other cars had been injured.

Police had not yet determined if the driver was driving under the influence, but noted that speed was definitely a factor.

Witnesses told police the car appeared to be going about 100 miles per hour when it crashed, Dunnet said.

"But we haven't yet determined how fast it was really going," he said. "That is still under investigation by detectives.''

The driver was not racing, police noted.

All lanes of Vanowen Street had been reopened Monday morning.

Anyone with information on the crash was asked to call the LAPD's Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8000.
