Two Killed in Fiery Crash in Huntington Beach

Two men were killed in a fiery crash early Friday morning in Huntington Beach, police said.

The crash was reported around 2:14 a.m. near the intersection of Warner Avenue and Edwards Street.
Police determined the vehicle was traveling southbound on Edwards Street at a high speed when the vehicle lost control over a bridge, crashed into an apartment building and caught fire, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.

At least two good Samaritans pulled the men from the mangled wreck and performed CPR.

"We heard the tires screeching and then the big boom," said one of the rescuers, Matthew French. "We went over here and seen the car in flames. People were just standing around looking at them. Me and another guy pulled the bodies out of the car."

Once the victims were removed, another rescuer stepped in.

"I knew one of them did not have any life in him and I went up to the other one and he had a heartbeat, and I just performed CPR," said Magen Schoewald.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to the Huntington Beach Fire Department.

"I can't sleep right now. All I can see is their faces, and their faces were pretty mangled up," French said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
