Two Stabbed at Metro Red Line Station

The victims were hospitalized after the attack at Metro's Hollywood and Western station

A Two people were stabbed Tuesday morning at a Metro Red Line station in Hollywood.

The stabbing was reported at about 4:30 a.m. at the Hollywood and Western station, which remained closed for the investigation. The stabbing occurred in a mezzanine area above the train platform, according to a Metro spokesman.

The male victim was hospitalized in serious, but stable condition. Details regarding a female victim's condition were not immediately available.

An argument led to the stabbing, according to investigators, who said several people -- including an individual in a Halloween clown costume -- came to the victims' aid.

The woman encountered the attacker at the top of a stairway, according to investigators.

"She pushes him away, and he immediately begins to assault her," said Capt. Dan Cruz. "The boyfriend, who was walking up the stairs, sees his girlfriend being assaulted."

When the male victim tried to help, both victims were stabbed, according to investigators. The attacker ran from the area, according to a Metro official. The station reopened later Tuesday morning.

In August, a 33-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal attack at another Metro Red Line station in Hollywood. The victim's family announced in September that they plan to file a lawsuit against the LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Another attack occurred in August on the Metro Gold Line.
