Teen Trapped Under Tree Survives With Minor Injuries

A 17-year-old suffered minor injuries after a downed tree fell on top of him.

A 17-year-old is recovering in the hospital after a downed tree fell on top of him.

"We heard a cracking noise," Brenda Flinders told NBC4. "I heard screaming and apparently it was our neighbor boy."

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded Sunday evening to a teen trapped under a downed tree on Agua Dulce Canyon Road. The tree also brought down wires.

Flinders' pine tree snapped in half, and on its way down took out live power lines. The downed tree trapped Flinders' teenage neighbor who happened to be in the street when the tree fell around 6:45 p.m.

LA County Fire said they do not know if wind was a factor in the tree falling.

Firefighters initially could not access the victim because of the wires. Crews had to wait for Edison to arrive and de-energize the power lines so they could rescue the teen.

He was rescued shortly after 8 p.m. and suffered only minor injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital.
