East LA Water Main Break Shuts Down Streets

A torrent of brown water shut down streets in East Los Angeles Tuesday as officials worked to fix a water main break in the early morning hours.

The break happened shortly after 5 a.m. at the intersection of Gateside Drive and Multnomah Street.

Water could be seen gushing from the ground flooding streets for a little over two hours before officials from the Department of Water and Power shut off the pipe's supply.

It would take about six to eight hours to cut and replace the broken 6 inch pipe, officials estimated. Fifteen customers were affected by the break.

It was unclear when the roads would reopen.
