Bradley Smith woke to the sound of hail pounding on the roof Saturday morning in Costa Mesa.
The 37-year-old Orange resident was visiting his mother in Costa Mesa when the hail woke him at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
"It was the largest hail I'd ever seen," said Smith. "Some of it was the size of a quarter."
Smith, who has lived in Southern California his entire life, said the hail lasted about 8 to 10 minutes before "fizzling out" and turning to rain and thunderstorms.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to continue to move through Orange County Saturday morning.
