One Killed in Vermont Avenue Crash

    One person was killed and two people were injured early Thursday on Vermont Avenue near the 101 Freeway.

    Authorities said the vehicle, which was being followed by officers, had just exited the northbound 101 Freeway when it crashed. The Vermont Avenue off-ramp remained closed at 6:15 a.m., and traffic on the northbound side of the freeway was backing up in the area.

    The Vermont Avenue exit ramp was reopened at about 7 a.m.

    Two people were ejected and one person was trapped in the car. The deceased motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The injured victims were hospitalized. Details regarding their conditions were not immediately available.

    It was not clear why officers were following the car. The vehicle was removed from the scene at about 6:30 a.m.
